Dried mealworms are a great source of protein for many birds - blackbirds and tits in particular. Apparently you can soak them in a little water over night to make them even tastier, although Ive never done this as they disappear quickly anyway!
Indeed, they are quite expensive so I only use them as special treats. Quite often I will mix a handful of then with a quantity of general seed mix to make it extra special.
If you place a handful of them on your bird table, I bet they go in a flash!
