I've recently started using more specialist on-line suppliers as I'm buying bigger quantities now and there's good value to be had using the internet. Also, I think these specialists really know their subject and are passionate about what they do, so wouldn't try and pass on rubbish food. The two sites that I use are Twootz and Garden Wildlife Direct. The both have a good range of products and offer free delivery if you order above a certain amount (only about £10 in the case of Twootz). Both sites also have lots of customer reviews which have helped me.

Buying bird food
If you are just starting out trying to attract birds to your garden, then you will probably end up at a DIY store or garden centre and you won't go far wrong using these. I've a Homebase near me which stocks an impressive range of bird foods at keen prices. I have read that places selling seed loose are possibly best avoided as you don't know how old the seed is or where it's from.
